Abstract

This study presents a novel seismocardiography (SCG) monitoring system utilizing a singlemode-multimode-singlemode (SMS) fiber structure encased within a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) enclosure. The system employs a simple intensity-based interrogation method. Experimental characterization of the SMS fiber sensor demonstrated its sensitivity to vibrations, achieving an average calibration error of 1.63%. Validation against a gold-standard electrocardiogram (ECG) yielded an average error of 2.29%, representing a 1.27% accuracy improvement over existing fiber-optic SCG sensors (97.71% vs. 96.48%). This design offers a simplified and more robust alternative to current fiber-optic SCG sensors while maintaining high accuracy.
